FAQ
Still Curious?
Here’s some helpful answers that will help you dive deeper before getting started with Bandit.
- Is Bandit the same as just buying a WordPress theme?
-
Absolutely not. When you buy a WordPress theme, you’re lucky if you find documentation about customizing it to fit your needs. Even then, you’re left to your own devices to figure out what works well, which undoubtedly ends with trying to track down the theme creator in a thread of 3,000 comments. Bandit is so much more than a WordPress theme–it’s a service provided by people who can help shape your content and provide and implement design direction. And we aren’t going anywhere after your site launches.
- Won’t all Bandit sites look the same?
-
No. While it’s true that Bandit uses a pre-built design foundation that does a lot of the work, we strive to ensure the style of your site is unique and appropriately customized to feel right for your needs. Bandit’s versatility shines when it comes to customizing layouts, colors, fonts, patterns, images, and more. If you’re still skeptical, check out some of these examples to see how crafty it really is.
- Can I make edits to my site after it launches?
-
Yes, we encourage you make content edits to your site as often as necessary, with or without our involvement. If this is your first experience using WordPress, you’ll love how simple it is to do so.
- Are there limits to what I can edit?
-
You’ll be able to edit virtually any text on the site, swap out images, and build new pages and menu items whenever you want. It’s with good reason that we don’t provide a way to change some things like text color, button style, or backgrounds after launch: Bandit’s quality depends on user interface consistency. We provide ample ways to construct layouts and make certain messages stand out, but all within the design system established prior to launch.
- Will my site work on phones and tablets?
-
Yes. We’ve built Bandit with a multi-screen philosophy, meaning that we value your site’s appearance and functionality on the smallest of phones just as much as the largest of monitors (and everything in between).
- Does the base cost include a domain name and hosting?
-
No. Bandit’s base cost includes the initial project management, design, development, and deployment of your new website. Hosting is $30/month, and is billed annually. If you already have a domain name, we’ll help point it to our preferred hosting environment. If you don’t, we can work with you to register a new domain name.
- Can I use my existing hosting?
-
No. Bandit’s affordable cost is made possible by streamlining the development and update processes. Therefore, we insist on using our recommended (and excellent) hosting solution, WPEngine. Keep reading to see its benefits.
- Why do you recommend WPEngine?
-
WPEngine specializes in hosting WordPress websites, so their platform is specifically engineered to make deploying and maintaining WordPress sites easier, faster, and more secure. Some features of WPEngine:
- Speed: caching technology and a content delivery network (CDN) significantly speed up your website, which in turn helps usability and SEO
- Backups: snapshots of your website and content are taken every day, which can be restored in case of deletion or other issues.
- Security: proactive security and malware scans of your website, plus automatic installation of priority updates
- What’s included with maintenance and why is it important?
-
Just like the software on your smartphone or computer, WordPress and its related components need to be kept up-to-date to keep them secure and fast. Allowing a WordPress site to run without updates leaves it exposed to newly discovered security holes or bugs in the platform, which could result in an attack or takeover of your website.
We recommend that all our clients have us test and apply updates regularly, as we do with our own sites. Combined with using strong passwords for your WordPress logins, this is one of the best defenses against potential attacks.
During maintenance, we:
- Back up your current site and content
- Duplicate your site to a staging environment, allowing us to apply patches and test without affecting the live version
- Apply updates in the staging area
- Test in the staging area and fix any issues that may arise
- Push new updates and fixes to the live site
